Alex Ovechkin and Bryce Harper nominated for Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards

(Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports)

Things are looking up for Alex Ovechkin, who was cleared to return to the ice at the IIHF World Championships after taking a brutal hip-check during a preliminary-round game on Sunday and is among the nominees in the “Sickest Moves” category of Nickelodeon’s first Kids’ Choice Sports Awards. (It beats being an early candidate for a “Favorite Comeback Player” nomination in 2015, anyway.)

In true Nickelodeon fashion, the awards show, to be hosted by Michael Strahan on July 17, will feature both sweat and slime. The “Sickest Moves” category is loaded, with “Pittsburg Penquins” (Nickelodeon’s spelling) star Sidney Crosby, Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and Lionel Messi among Ovechkin’s competition.

Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper is nominated in the “Favorite Newcomer” category along with Mike Trout, Yasiel Puig, Sloane Stephens, Skylar Diggins and Russell Wilson.

No Redskins or Wizards were nominated for an award and Nick Young is somehow not among the candidates for “King of Swag.”

Thanks to Adam Vingan for the reminder that former Capitals Coach Adam Oates once appeared on Nickelodeon’s “GUTS.”
