The heartwarming tale of a dog named John Wall getting adopted from an Annapolis shelter

John Wall the dog. (via SPCA of Anne Arundel County)

There’s a dog at the SPCA Anne Arundel County in Annapolis named John Wall and he’s the cutest. He’s a young, male, beagle mix who arrived in December 2013 from another shelter “where he ran out of time.”

Sorry, Wizards fans. You’ve also run out of time to adopt him.

“He’s scheduled to go home later this week,” SPCA caretaker Tarah Noll told me.

The John Wall name was given to the dog by his previous owner, not the shelter, according to Noll, and he was returned because he got too excited around kids. Most of the other dogs in Wall’s shelter have more dog-like names, such as Ace, Rocky, Dory and Sad Eyes. There’s a Pippen, though.

Noll couldn’t reveal the identify of Wall’s adopter, but we’ll be monitoring John Wall the basketball star’s Twitter feed for the next few weeks. He wouldn’t be the first D.C. sports star to own own a dog named after himself.
