Ryan Zimmerman debuted his protective oven-mitt-like-thingee after coming back from his broken thumb earlier this month.

And when Bryce Harper showed up in Woodbridge this week, he had a matching device.

Via Kilgore, the first night with Potomac:

On the bases, Harper covered his left hand with the same pad Ryan Zimmerman has worn over his right thumb, a thick, black glove that looks like a miniature over mitt.

“We’re gonna go bake,” Harper said.

And via Kilgore, the second night with Potomac:

Harper said he felt a vibration in his thumb Monday night, but the solid contact he made Tuesday prevented the painful twinge. “I felt really good today,” Harper said. He tested his thumb when he slid into second base feet-first with two outs despite the lack of a close play. He dragged his left hand behind him, and with a black pad that resembled a small oven mitt covering his hand, Harper had no issues.

The P-Nats were kind enough to send along a couple photos of Harper and his oven mitt on the basepaths. Clearly, the first time Harper plays in D.C., fans need to bring along oven mitts of their own. Or chef hats maybe. Full-body oven mitt costumes. Something.
