The Big Ten mascots invade D.C. to celebrate Maryland’s move

If you’re walking around D.C. today, there’s a better than normal chance that you’ll bump into Herky the Hawk, Brutus Buckeye or Goldy Gopher. The Big Ten mascots are in town as part of the festivities to celebrate Maryland’s (and Rutgers’s) move to the Big Ten, which will be made official tomorrow.

The mascots, who have already made stops at the Capitol, Verizon Center, the White House and the Lincoln Memorial, will eventually make their way to the Fairgrounds adjacent to Nationals Park for a 4 p.m. block party sponsored by the Big Ten Network.

The Big Ten will be honored during a pregame ceremony at Nationals Park, but it remains to be seen whether Testudo and his new friends take part in the Presidents Race. This needs to happen, right? Virginia’s Cav Man could play the ACC-chanting villain.
