Orioles’ Nelson Cruz knows a great catch when he sees one

Rangers center fielder Leonys Martin scaled the wall to rob former teammate and good friend Nelson Cruz of his MLB-leading 27th home run on Wednesday in Baltimore. The Orioles designated hitter’s reaction — stop, point and smile — after Martin’s incredible catch was excellent.

“We text, so I told him congrats on the good catch,” said Cruz, who was a mentor to Martin during their time together in Arlington. “Hopefully he can enjoy it for a while.”

“That’s my boy,” Martin said. “I know that’s my boy. But it’s a ballgame and I am trying to do the best for my team.”

The Orioles rallied to win, 6-4.

On Tuesday, Martin wished Cruz a happy 34th birthday on Twitter.

Today, he’s retweeted multiple GIFs and videos of his catch.

As impressive as it was, Martin’s catch didn’t lead SportsCenter’s Top 10. That honor went to the Rockies’ first-inning double play against the Nationals.
