Robert Griffin III watches Gio Gonzalez dominate at Nationals Park, says he could throw 90

Gio Gonzalez should invite Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III to more games at Nationals Park. Griffin wore a red “GRIFFIN III” No. 10 Nationals jersey and sat behind home plate for Gonzalez’s best start of the season Saturday, a 13-0 win over the Cubs.

“With Bryce and Gio, and then John Wall, we’ve had a chance to hang out and kind of unite the whole city,” Griffin told MASN’s Dan Kolko during an in-game interview. “That’s our goal.”

(I hope Alex Ovechkin doesn’t feel left out.)

Kolko asked Griffin, who cheered Gonzalez through eight scoreless innings and played shortstop and center field as a kid, if he could touch 90 mph from the mound.

“I think with a few weeks of work, in preparation for that, I think I can throw 90,” Griffin said.

This needs to happen. Invite Griffin to throw out the ceremonial first pitch in a few weeks and have Screech hold a radar gun behind home plate.
