Ryan Clark isn’t trying to start a sock competition with RGIII

I know, I know, more Redskins sock news. But no, this Ryan Clark thing is actually pretty sweet.

The once-and-future Redskins safety tweeted earlier this month about his sock preparation.

Friday, he opted for these multi-colored numbers. And of course he was asked about the inevitable comparison with Griffin, and by Washington’s leading sock reporter no less.

“I know you guys have only been here for a while, and you all seem to think Robert has the market cornered on socks,” Clark said with a smile. “But I was doing this before Robert Griffin III got to the NFL. I just do this for me, though.”

So there are other socks to come?

“I’ve got a ton of socks,” he assured several reporters. “I have a ton of socks with me on this trip. I always have a fun backpack of socks. My kids pick them out for me in the offseason, and so I wear them when I come to camp. Keeps a little piece of them out here with me while they’re at home.”

It isn’t a competition, though.

“No [competition] at all,” he wrote on Twitter. “I just chill and be me.”

(As for Griffin, after going with black and white coordination on Thursday, by Friday he was just back to regular old white.)
