ESPN 980 caller breaks down while objecting to Mike Wise column

(By Dean Hoffmeyer / AP Photo/ Richmond Times-Dispatch)

If there were any doubt that people are pouring vast amounts of emotional resources into debates about sports and journalism, let me refer you to a caller this week into ESPN 980. Host Andy Pollin was talking about Mike Wise’s column about the Redskins and Virginia; he then said he would take one last call on the issue.

That call turned out to be from a person who referenced his history of reading The Post sports section dating from Shirley Povich. Then he voice started cracking. Here’s what it sounded like.
