Orioles’ Adam Jones shares a pie with a dog, takes the Ice Bucket Challenge

(Via MASN)

Orioles second baseman Jonathan Schoop was MASN’s postgame player guest Monday after he hit a three-run home run in Baltimore’s 11-3 win over the Yankees. Predictably, Adam Jones interrupted the rookie’s enlightening interview from inside the Orioles dugout when he arrived with a Dangerously Delicious pie destined for Schoop’s face.

Somewhere in Severna Park, David Knowles fumed. Knowles, you see, wrote a letter to the Baltimore Sun last month to complain about Jones’s pieing routine.

As the Orioles continue their winning season and hold a lead in the American League East, it is exciting to see many different players contributing to the success. It is truly a team effort. Many players have had the opportunity to be featured in MASN’s post-game interview. It’s unfortunate that again and again, Adam Jones finds it necessary to steal their moment in the spotlight by throwing a pie in their face on live TV (“The Orioles are pitching Dangerously Delicious victory pies,” June 13).

He is making it about himself while depriving viewers who might actually want to hear what the hero of the game has to say. It is a childish prank that was amusing the first few times but has long since run its course. Mr. Jones should show some maturity and let his teammates enjoy their chances to be recognized for their achievements.

While Jones has continued to pie his teammates, he appears to have taken Knowles’s request to heart when interacting with canines. During Monday’s broadcast, MASN showed a clip of Jones hanging out with a rescue dog to promote the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) and the Orioles’ 2015 Pet Calendar. In an upset, Jones did not pie said dog.

On Sunday, Jones accepted the ubiquitous Ice Bucket Challenge, but the person responsible for dousing him with ice water has worse aim than Doug Fister. No matter, Jones then called on a pretty powerful trio to raise awareness for ALS by taking the challenge:

“#IceBucketChallenge #StrikingOutALS #ImCallingUOutBarack #ImCallingUOutBoehner. #ImCallingUOutShowalter”

While President Obama and John Boehner have yet to accept Jones’s challenge — and Obama likely never will — Showalter got soaked for a good cause Monday.
