Daniel Snyder’s advice to Jerry Jones during losing seasons: ‘Drink a lot’

The Cowboys, right now, appear to be pretty good. The Redskins, right now, do not.

Things weren’t always so, however. There have been times in the recent past when the Redskins were good and the Cowboys were not. Or at least, when the Cowboys were not.

And during one of those times, Daniel Snyder reached out to Jerry Jones to provide succor.

Jones, in fact, offered a touching anecdote this week on 105.3 The Fan’s New School With Shan & RJ, when asked if he feels sorry for Snyder when Washington is struggling.

“Well, he called me one time [when] we were having a tough time of it,” Jones recalled. “And he said ‘Now don’t take this wrong. You know how much I respect you.’ But he said ‘I’ve got some advice for you.’

“And I kind of rolled my eyes on the other end of the phone, thought well here goes. And he said ‘Drink a lot.’ ”

That is good advice. Jones didn’t say which poison Snyder recommended, but we can surmise that it was either Bud Light or Crown Royal.

Jones was also asked to describe the origins of his friendship with Snyder.

“I met him when he was a part of a minority that were trying to buy the Redskins with the principal owner being a guy named [Howard] Milstein. And that didn’t work out, and so Dan — who is a classic team fan that lived his dream and got to be involved — Dan was able to put it together, put an ownership group together and buy the team. I thought that, in and of itself, really showed his resourcefulness and it showed his commitment and his passion, because that was a very difficult financial step at the time to take.

“I have since seen what has made him such a brilliant businessman; he does a lot of good things that have really benefited the league. And consequently it’s easy for us to get together on a lot of the issues in the NFL.”

Jones, of course, also strongly backed the team name on the same radio program this week.
