Wizards center Marcin Gortat was fined $5,000 for violating the NBA’s anti-flopping rules for the second time this season during Washington’s 88-84 win over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday. The league ruled that Gortat exaggerated a push by Jazz forward Rodney Hood in the fourth quarter, which resulted in Hood being assessed his fourth personal foul and Gortat making two free throws to extend the Wizards’ lead to five with 4:31 remaining.
Based on the replay of the incident, it appears that Gortat, who received a warning after his first flopping violation this season, deserved to be docked.
On Twitter, Gortat indicated that the win — Washington’s fifth straight — was well worth the hit to his wallet. Then, as he is wont to do, Gortat took on all comers and probably blocked a few fools who dared criticize him for being soft, “cheating” and even not speaking perfect English.
