Joel Ward gave the Capitals a thrilling 2-1 win in Game 1 of their second-round series against the Rangers with a buzzer-beating goal at Madison Square Garden on Thursday.

Ward’s game-winner, which was assisted by Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin, came with 1.3 seconds remaining.

An overhead view of the net confirmed that Ward’s shot crossed the goal line with plenty of time to spare. Well, 1.3 seconds anyway.

Ovechkin celebrated as one should a goal of that magnitude.

John Walton’s call of the goal on Caps Radio was excellent.
