The Capitals lost Game 2 of their second-round series against the Rangers, 3-2, on Saturday, but Alex Ovechkin drove another stake in the “Ovechkin Doesn’t Perform in the Playoffs” narrative with one of the more ridiculous goals of his career.

With Washington trailing 3-1 in the third period, Ovechkin took a pass from Joel Ward at center ice, split a pair of Rangers defenders and, from his knees, beat Henrik Lundqvist with a shot that found the top corner of the net.

Ovechkin now has 69 points in 67 postseason games, including 35 goals.

Ovechkin’s goal was, for lack of a better term, sick.
