Paul Pierce didn’t play particularly well for most of Wednesday’s Game 5 at Atlanta, but he showed up, as usual, when it mattered most. Pierce scored six of his 11 points in the game’s final minutes, including a go-ahead three-pointer with 8.3 seconds remaining.

After making that shot from the corner, Pierce, who said “I called game” after banking in a buzzer-beater to beat Atlanta in Game 3, reportedly turned to the Hawks bench and said “series.”

Two more truths for The Truth’s collection, it seemed, but Al Horford had other ideas. Horford scored on a putback with 1.9 seconds to play to give Atlanta an 82-81 victory and a 3-2 series lead.

Pierce definitely turned toward the Atlanta bench after making his shot over Paul Millsap.

After the Hawks called a 20-second timeout, Pierce left a couple of people hanging by the Wizards’ bench.
