Verizon has not decided if it will try to renew its naming rights to the Verizon Center after its current deal expires in 2018, a company spokeswoman said Tuesday.

“Our review of this partnership … has not even begun, given we’re several years from the 2018 term end date,” Verizon spokeswoman Sandra Arnette wrote in an e-mail to The Washington Post Tuesday afternoon.

The statement from Verizon came a day after the Post reported that Monumental Sports & Entertainment has begun the search for a new title sponsor for the arena. A Monumental official who requested anonymity said the company assumes it will need to find a new sponsor. The story was first reported by Sports Business Journal.
