The Redskins are introducing a host of new foods to their FedEx Field concessions operations, continuing an offseason of promised changes in the team’s game-day experience.
President Bruce Allen hinted at these changes in his letter to fans in March, writing that feedback indicated “concession options were lacking” at the stadium, and that the team was “considering a number of significant additions.”
The team hasn’t officially announced any of the new additions, but provided clues at a Wednesday night tasting event for fans at FedEx Field. Among the items sampled: a pulled pork sandwich, a crab cake, a BBQ beef brisket and bacon cheeseburger (available in single or double form!), a Reuben, an Italian beef sandwich, a “Capitol Cheesesteak” and a Buffalo chicken sandwich, as well as more traditional choices like brats, Italian sausages, “Chili Cheese Super Hog” hot dogs, foot-long dogs, nachos and grilled chicken sandwiches with roasted red pepper and basil pesto mayo.
There will also be new healthy options, including salads, fruit cups, snack packs, and gluten-free wraps and beers.
While the new offerings may not be outlandish — especially in today’s era of gourmet stadium food — they represent a fairly significant change for the Redskins, who haven’t traditionally strayed far from the chicken tenders, hot dogs and pizza continuum. The team is also expected to roll out additional new items that weren’t on hand Wednesday night, as well as changes in its drink menus.
While these remain concepts rather than final products, most of the choices will wind up at the stadium in some form. Many of them are expected to be available at all levels of the stadium, although some might only be on the club level or lower level.
