Donald Trump doesn’t talk much about D.C. sports anymore, which is a shame for those of us who write about D.C. sports for a living. But there have been brief moments in the past where Trump — or at least the powerful Trump Twitter account — has weighed in on the most vital Washington sports topics.
The quick summary: he was against most Nats fans on the matter of Stephen Strasburg, was with every Redskins fan on the potential of Robert Griffin III, and was exactly where you’d expect he’d be on the issue of the Redskins team name.
In total, will these stances help him or hurt him with Washington sports fans? I’d guess it’s kind of a wash. I do know that if he has any hope of wooing the 30-something sports blogger demographic, he should make an immediate statement covering Randy Wittman’s job tenure, Jonathan Papelbon’s continued employment and whether Kirk Cousins deserved to make the Pro Bowl.
ROBERT GRIFFIN III
(One of these made the Redskins Facebook page, incidentally.)
