With the Capitals in Los Angeles to play the Kings on Wednesday, Alex Ovechkin spent part of his Tuesday taping a segment for ESPN’s “SportsCenter” before attending the Lakers-Magic game at Staples Center.

In addition to asking about Ovechkin’s favorite spot on the ice and why this Capitals team is different than previous versions, ESPN’s Barry Melrose and Neil Everett were curious about Ovechkin’s relationship with rapper Lil’ Wayne, who congratulated the Capitals captain on Twitter after his hat trick last month.

“He’s my man,” Ovechkin said. “I met him probably four or five years ago, he had a concert in D.C. and we had a picture together. I don’t have his cellphone, but I would love to have it, especially in L.A.”

(Earlier in the interview, Melrose asked Ovechkin who he would call if he lost his wallet in a terrible part of Los Angeles. “Any player on my team,” Ovechkin responded.)

At the Lakers game, Ovechkin took a selfie with Lakers part-owner Jeanie Buss and posed for a photo with tennis great Novak Djokovic and Kobe Bryant.

Bryant gave Ovechkin a pair of signed shoes and a signed jersey with the inscription, “To Alex, one of the all time greats!”

Bryant is apparently giving away signed shoes like candy. Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson received a pair — minus the “all-time great” inscription — earlier in the week.
