Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik had to be helped off the ice by trainer Greg Smith and teammate John Carlson after taking a big hit from Flyers forward Ryan White in the second period of Game 3 of the teams’ first-round series on Monday.

With 8 minutes, 1 second to play in the period, White sandwiched Orpik along the glass. Orpik immediately fell to his knees and appeared woozy as he was led off the ice to some boos from the Philadelphia faithful. There was no penalty called on White’s hit.

(Update: Capitals Coach Barry Trotz said Orpik, who did not return to the game, suffered an upper-body injury and would be re-evaluated on Tuesday.)

Earlier in the day, White suggested that the Capitals got a lot of the calls in Games 1 and 2.

“They’re the Presidents’ Trophy winner,” White said Monday morning. “You get a lot of breaks. Decisions that are maybe 50-50, I think a lot of them are going their way right now. I think being in their home rink helps them as well, and we’re hoping for a little bit of that here tonight. I think having our crowd on the ref and having our crowd asking for calls, I think that’s going to go a little bit more our way.”
