Max Scherzer made a lifelong fan in Citi Field (of all places) on Wednesday. Before the Nationals’ 7-1 win over the Mets, the pitcher took a break from shagging fly balls in the outfield during batting practice to play catch with a young Mets fan.

Joe La Rocca shared video of his 11-year-old son, who was decked out in a Jacob deGrom jersey and a Mets hat, tossing a ball back and forth to Scherzer from the left field stands.

“Amazing,” La Rocca’s son said. “I’m not giving this ball away, there’s no way.”

A young Nationals fan also had a memorable night at Wednesday’s game, thanks to the generosity of Bryce Harper. After looking disappointed when he was asked to give back a Wilson Ramos bat that went flying into the stands in the ninth inning, the kid received a bat from Harper, delivered by MASN reporter Dan Kolko.
