The Redskins lost their season opener on “Monday Night Football” at FedEx Field, 38-16, to the Steelers. In other news, the sun came up Tuesday.

Washington is now 2-15 in “Monday Night Football” games at home since FedEx Field opened in 1997. That ugly record has included a 10-game losing streak, losses in three season openers, and defeats to good teams and bad. The Redskins have been outscored 506-276 in 17 Monday night home games, which translates to an average loss of 30-16. Monday’s 22-point loss to the Steelers was only Washington’s fifth worst at home on “Monday Night Football” in the FedEx Field era.

The Redskins’ .118 home winning percentage on “Monday Night Football” since 1997 is by far the worst in the league. The Raiders (3-8) are the only team that comes close to matching the Washington’s futility among teams that have hosted at least 10 MNF games during that span, while the Dolphins (7-11) are the only other team with double-digit home losses on Monday in the past 20 years.

And to think it all started with a win over the Cowboys in October 1997. Here’s a look back at the Redskins’ “Monday Night Football” history at FedEx Field, as told through Post Sports fronts:

Oct. 13, 1997 – Win, Cowboys, 21-16

Sept. 14, 1998 – Loss, 49ers, 45-10
