The Gallaudet men’s basketball team, which set a program record for wins this season in pursuit of its first conference championship since 1943, was upset by visiting Morrisville State, 72-68, in the semifinals of the North Eastern Athletic Conference tournament.

The Bison finished the season with a 20-6 record. They had gone 18-2 in NEAC play during the regular season, earning the right to host their conference tournament as the top seed for the first time, though one of those losses had come against Morrisville State.

Gallaudet, which has never qualified for the NCAA Division III tournament, had a chance to tie in the final 10 seconds, but a three-point attempt fell well short. The Mustangs, of Morrisville, N.Y., then converted 1 of 2 free throws with two seconds remaining to seal the victory.

After the final buzzer, Gallaudet players came to center court to acknowledge the home fans before huddling one last time and walking to the locker room.
