Anyway, you’ve read plenty about all the horrible, no-good streaks that are now over. Here’s one more: After 28 all-time postseason appearances, the Caps have their first championship. That’s the longest run of playoff misery to precede a team’s first title in NHL, NBA, MLB and NFL history.
I mean, there probably are better lists to top, but whatever. And at some point, some other sad-sack franchise is going to dislodge the Caps from the No. 1 spot. Here’s a look at the titleless teams that could do that in the near future:
Team (playoff appearances without a title)
St. Louis Blues (41, my goodness)
Denver Nuggets (33 as ABA/NBA franchise, 24 as NBA team)
Indiana Pacers (25 as an NBA team; the Pacers won ABA titles in 1970, 1972 and 1973)
