A Metrobus was hit by a van in an intersection in Northwest Washington on Wednesday morning, resulting in no serious injuries but blocking traffic in the area.

The eight people on the bus, all of whom are still being evaluated, do not appear to have life-threatening injuries, according to Oscar Mendez, spokesman for D.C. Fire and EMS.

The bus, operating on route 96 and heading to Capitol Heights, was in the intersection of Vermont Avenue and U Street NW when the van hit the rear left side of the bus. It’s unknown if the eight people being evaluated include the bus driver, said Metro spokesman Dan Stessel.

As a result of the accident, Vermont Avenue is closed between Florida Avenue and U Street, D.C. police report. Eastbound U Street is being diverted onto northbound 10th Street, while westbound U Street is being diverted onto 9th Street.
