The Capital Weather Gang forecast calls for “a textbook gorgeous mid-October day.” Cool temperatures in the morning are followed by warmer, pleasant temperatures in the afternoon.
An accident on Alabama and Branch avenues SE is blocking southbound Branch Avenue and one lane on eastbound Alabama Avenue.
UPDATE: The suspicious package is at 12th and C streets SW, according to police.
A suspicious package has closed the following streets along the southern side of the National Mall:
- The 200 to 400 blocks of 12th Street SW
- 12th Street SW and Independence Avenue SW
- 12th Street SW and Maryland Avenue SW
- 12th Street SW and C Street SW
- 12th Street SW and Maine Avenue SW
- 12th Street and Constitution Avenue SW [UPDATE: Added to the list]
- 12th Street and D St SW [UPDATE: Added to the list]
These streets are closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. We have reached out to Metro to see if any stations are affected and will let you know when we hear back. [UPDATE: Metro says there is no impact on any Metrorail service or stations right now.]

The vehicle fire on I-95 North at Dale Boulevard in Dale City has been cleared and the left lane and left shoulder reopened. There are still some delays on I-95 North just north of this spot, so expect congestion.

MARC Brunswick Line train 880 will run with one fewer cars than usual due to a mechanical issue, according to the Maryland Transit Administration. Expect crowding on the other cars.

As Dr. Gridlock reported on Tuesday, the District Department of Transportation plans to close a chunk of the heavily traveled Military Road NW for an emergency repair this morning.
Military Road will be closed in both directions at 42nd Street NW for about an hour beginning at 6:15 a.m. The work is scheduled to take an hour and, despite the early start, it is likely to cause a lot of traffic congestion on the east side of Friendship Heights.
