The cost of gas nationwide and locally rose again overnight, pushing prices higher for the 36th consecutive day.

AAA Mid-Atlantic described the price jump per gallon of regular, unleaded gas — 1 cent  in the District and less than a penny nationwide — as a “slight uptick,” according to a news release.

At $4.01, a gallon of gas in the District is well above the national average of $3.78 and inching closer to D.C.’s record high of $4.21, which was set in 2011.

Virginia also saw a slight increase, up 1 cent to $3.70 per gallon.

Maryland is the only local jurisdiction that saw a price decrease, dropping 1 cent from $3.85 to $3.84 per gallon.
