James M. Thresher/THE WASHINGTON POST) – Montgomery’s Ride On buses at the Silver Spring Metro Station.

Ride On passengers can ride free this week as part of Montgomery County’s annual food drive.

Riders who donate canned or nonperishable food during Ride On’s annual drive will have their fare waived. The drive began Sunday runs through Saturday. It benefits the Manna Food Center, which feeds more than 3,600 families a month.

In addition to nonperishable food, donations of disposable diapers, formula, baby or toddler food and juice are welcome. Plastic containers are preferred. Give and Ride food collection bags will be placed near the fare boxes on all Ride On buses.

All donations — regardless of how many items — will be counted at the regular fare rate of $1.80. Passengers who transfer buses will need an additional food donation to ride free on the second bus.
