The Silver Spring station is closed due to a fire on a train and smoke at the station, according to the Montgomery County Fire Department. Metro suspended Red Line service between the Takoma and Forest Glen stations as a result and has set up shuttle bus service between the two stops.

It’s still unclear what exactly happened. Montgomery County fire officials confirm there was a fire and say the fire has been put out. No one was injured and there was no confirmation of an explosion. The cause of the fire is being investigated by Metro and the county’s fire department.

Metro reports that there were no passengers aboard the train when they received reports of smoke and potential fire under a rail car at Silver Spring shortly after 6 p.m.
