The lanes reopened shortly before 6:20 p.m., according to police. Delays are likely to linger, so expect major headaches if you’re heading that way. In addition, watch for backups on nearby stretches of the Capital Beltway.


U.S. Park Police shut down the northbound lanes of the George Washington Memorial Parkway during Thursday’s evening commute after a car went over a guard rail north of Rossyln, officials said.

The accident happened near the overlook just north of Spout Run Parkway at about 5 p.m., officials said.  There was no immediate information about injuries. Police were investigating the incident.
