Thousands took to the area’s roads on Friday to participate in Bike to Work Day, the annual celebration of commuting on two wheels.

The Washington Area Bicyclist Association reports that more than 14,000 people registered for the event, up from the 12,000 who signed up last year. That fits the overall trend in the D.C. region, where bike commuting has substantially increased in recent years.

Here are some of the images riders shared Friday morning. Keep tweeting any stories and photos with the hashtag #btwd13. (Remember, everyone who commuted in will also have to commute home, so be careful out there!)
