A pedestrian died Thursday after he was struck by a Metrobus on Georgia Avenue near Route 108 in Olney.

Montgomery County Police identified the man as Ronald M. Johnson, 50, of Brookeville.

At about 11 p.m. Wednesday, a Metrobus on the Y9 route stopped to pick up passengers as it headed south on Georgia Avenue, according to Metro and police officials.

As the bus pulled away from the curb, police said, Johnson fell under the bus, said Officer Janelle Smith. Johnson was taken to a hospital, and was pronounced dead Thursday.

Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said the bus driver has been placed on paid leave while the incident is investigated.
