Capital Bikeshare is coming to Montgomery County later this summer. To prepare residents for the arrival of the cherry-red bikes, the county is hosting a set of meetings later this month to offer information about bike-sharing.
Meetings will take place in areas where Bikeshare docks will be installed. As my colleague Katherine Shaver reported, the county will see about 20 bike stations and about 450 bikes.
The Rockville and Shady Grove areas will get about 20 docks with 200 bikes. There will be 30 more stations with 250 bikes at Red Line stations inside the Beltway (like Takoma Park, Silver Spring, Friendship Heights, Bethesda and Medical Center).
- Monday, June 24, 7-9 p.m.: Discussing Bikeshare in Bethesda and Friendship Heights. Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center (4805 Edgemoor Lane, 2nd Floor, Bethesda).
- Tuesday, June 25, 7-9 p.m.: Discussing Bikeshare in Silver Spring and Takoma Park. Fire Station 1 (8110 Georgia Ave., 3rd Floor, Silver Spring).
- Wednesday, June 26, 7-9 p.m.: Discussing Bikeshare in Rockville, Shady Grove and the Life Sciences Center. Executive Office Building’s Lobby Auditorium (101 Monroe St., Rockville).
At the meetings, people can hear more about where Bikeshare stations will be installed in Montgomery and learn about how Bikeshare works in the District, Arlington and Alexandria. In addition, low-income workers and others who may qualify for free Bikeshare membership can learn more about that at these meetings.
The county signed a contract in April with Alta Bicycle Share, which runs Capital Bikeshare, to install bike docks, add bicycles and operate the system.
