Update, 8:17 a.m.:

Southbound I-295 has reopened, but major delays remain following a single-vehicle crash that left one woman dead Thursday morning, authorities said.

According to U.S. Park Police, a car traveling south on I-295 overturned around 5:50 a.m. just south of Route 198.

A female passenger, whose identity was not released, was seriously injured in the crash. She was transported to a local hospital, where she died of her injuries.

No information has been released about the condition of the driver. There were no other occupants in the car.

The overturned vehicle has been cleared from the scene, but police are continuing to investigate the incident to determine the cause of the crash.

I-295 south was reopened around 8 a.m., but backups extend for several miles.

Motorists on northbound I-295 are also experiencing rubbernecking delays due to the crash.

Portions of the southbound lanes of Interstate 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) are closed following two separate crashes in Laurel Thursday morning.

All southbound lanes of I-295 are closed at Route 198 (Fort Meade Road). The resulting backup is spilling over onto nearby Route 32 (Patuxent Freeway). Drivers are advised to use alternate routes.

As a result of a separate accident, the ramp from southbound I-295 to Powder Mill Road, south of Route 198, is also blocked.
