The intersection at Route 7 and 50 in Seven Corners re-opened Friday morning, but about 20 residents in that area are still without power.

Police had closed the intersection, as authorities worked to restore power to traffic lights that was knocked out after an overnight accident in the area.

The incident began around 11:30 p.m. Thursday. Police said a tractor trailer struck a transformer along Route 7. At one point, Dominion Power officials said as many as 1,500 homes in the area were without power. Crews had worked through the night to restore power and the remaining 20 homes still without power were expected to have it back at “anytime,” according to spokesman Daisy Pridgen.

Authorities said traffic lights were initially not working in the area and recommended that drivers avoid the roadways. The traffic light power was restored just before 7 a.m.
