Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a fire that gutted an off-duty Metrobus along New York Avenue early Monday morning.
The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m., along New York Avenue NE between Bladensburg Road and South Dakota Avenue, just outside of Metro’s Bladensburg bus division.
The fire on the empty bus caused officials to briefly close inbound lanes of New York Avenue in the overnight hours. The road was opened before dawn and there are no traffic delays.
Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said the fire started in the “engine compartment of the bus.”
There were no reports of injuries.
