Airport shuttle drivers at the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport staged an afternoon work slow down Thursday because they say managers at Super Shuttle have refused to hear their complaints about working conditions.

Organizers of the job action said about 30 drivers drove their van around the airport’s arrival and departure loop to draw public attention to their frustrations.

Airport spokesman Jonathan Dean, said he was unaware of the protest and that there were no indications that the drivers’ action disrupted airport operations.

Van driver Patrick Benhene, who has been driving since 2006, said the job is a difficult one.

“We work so hard,” he said. “We have to work 24 hours before you can make some money. It’s not even minimum wage.”

Margaret Nathan, a spokeswoman for Super Shuttle said they have addressed drivers’ complaints and have moved to replace equipment that doesn’t work. Benhene acknowledged that management has taken back faulty equipment and promised to replace it.

The BWI drivers were not the only workers to stage a protest Thursday. Cab drivers in Montgomery County held a rally earlier in the day to protest credit card transaction fees they say are too high.
