D.C.-area cyclist Pete Beers sent out a series of fun tweets this week that reminded me of an old advertising campaign.

Years ago, Burma-Shave would post small signs along U.S. roadways — usually short poems to promote their shaving product. This week, along the roadways in the District, someone had scribbled a few little ditties for cyclists. Beers said he’s seen the chalk messages from time to time along bike trails in D.C., Rosslyn and other spots. They always give him a lift.

“It makes me want to get some sidewalk chalk and do some myself,” he said.
