These are the kind of numbers that transportation wonks find fascinating.
In 2012, people entered the United States in their personal vehicles nearly 96 million times, according to a data dump Thursday from USDOT’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics. More than 33 million of those vehicles came from Canada, while almost 63 million came from Mexico. The border into the United States also was crossed by 10.7 million trucks, 320,000 buses and 37,000 trains in 2012.
The BTS said that more than $1.11 trillion in goods crossed the U.S. border with Canada and Mexico, 5 percent higher than in 2011, and 21 percent higher than 2010.
