The three westbound lanes of University Boulevard at Valley View Avenue in Wheaton are closed Monday morning because of a gas leak. One eastbound lane is also closed because trucks and equipment are parked there to help with the repair work.
Ruben E. Rodriguez, a spokesman for Washington Gas, said the leak happened when a contractor working for Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission “struck a gas service line.” He said only one customer was without gas service as a result.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. Officials initially said they expected to have the fix made within two to three hours.
Montgomery County Police said they expect to have at least one westbound lane of University Boulevard open by 6:30 a.m.
