Does this just scream “caption contest”?
In a special ceremony in Philadelphia on Thursday, Amtrak unveiled the newest addition to its fleet — the Amtrak Cities Sprinter Locomotive.
The locomotive is one of 70 that will operate along the Northeast corridor. More trains will be brought into operation in coming months, with all of them expected to arrive by 2015. According to Amtrak officials, the new locomotives could save more than 3 billion kilowatt hours of energy. Translated: more than $300 million in savings over 20 years.
The trains were built by Siemens in a solar-powered rail manufacturing plant in California. The total cost of the new locomotives is roughly $466 million. They will replace locomotives that have been in service between 25 and 35 years.
The first Cities Sprinter is expected to arrived at Union Station later today. No word on whether Vice President Biden will be aboard.
