If you haven’t traveled through Reagan National Airport’s historic Terminal A in a while you may be in for a pleasant surprise.

The security area in the terminal has long been a choke point: its long narrow hallway limited the number of passengers who could queue for screening. As part of the airport’s $37 million renovation, the security area has been widened with new lanes.

Officials hope the change — along with new tile flooring, additional lighting and windows — will make moving through the terminal a nicer experience.

By spring 2015, officials plan to add additional amenities including an iPad bar, full service spa and a bevy of new restaurants including one headlined by Carla Hall, the Silver Spring chef whose memorable stint on ‘Top Chef’ led to a gig on the foodie-themed talk show ‘The Chew.”
