The Orange and Yellow lines will operate on their normal schedules this weekend. The Blue and Green lines will have work zones affecting schedules at one station each. The west side of the Red Line will undergo extensive track work, but all stations will be open.

It’s good the schedule is this light, because the trains are likely to have some extra riders on Saturday. Metrorail will open at 5 a.m. Saturday, two hours earlier than normal, to accommodate participants in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, which always leads to morning and afternoon traffic congestion in D.C. (The event sponsors pay for the extra two hours of rail service.) Also set for Saturday morning is the Four Courts Four Miler Race in Arlington. See details on the Saturday events.

Here are the details on the disruptions for the rebuilding program.

Red Line. Crews will work on the tracks between Friendship Heights and Dupont Circle. From 10 p.m. Friday through the rail system’s midnight close on Sunday, trains are scheduled to leave the ends of the line at Shady Grove and Glenmont every 16 minutes. But from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, extra trains will be in service between Farragut North and Silver Spring. In that zone, trains should reach platforms about every 10 minutes.

Blue Line. Crews will work on the tracks between Van Dorn Street and Franconia-Springfield. The line will run on its regular schedule except on Saturday at Franconia-Springfield. At that end-of-the-line station, trains will arrive and depart every 20 to 25 minutes between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday.

Riders who normally park at Franconia-Springfield might be better off on Saturday if they drove instead to the Van Dorn Street station, one up on the Blue Line, or over to the Huntington station, at the end of the Yellow Line.

Green Line. Crews continue to work on the new train test track between College Park and Greenbelt. On Saturday and Sunday, buses will replace trains between Greenbelt and College Park. The shuttle ride between the two stations should take about 15 minutes. On the rest of the line, trains will operate on their normal weekend schedules.

Riders who normally would park at the big Greenbelt lot might be better off driving to the College Park station, or to the New Carrollton station, just off the Capital Beltway on the Orange Line.
