Northbound lanes of Quince Orchard Road closed in Gaithersburg

The northbound lanes of Quince Orchard Road in Gaithersburg are closed after a retaining wall collapsed.

On Sunday evening, officials closed the road between Hillstone Road and Pawnee Drive. Police said the road could be closed for days, as crews work to repair the wall.

The retaining wall started falling apart into the roadway after heavy rains in the area on Sunday. Inspectors and safety officials said the roadway needed to be closed for safety reasons, according to police.

Drivers are advised to use alternative routes.

Some homes in the 100 block of Ridge Point Place in the Kentlands neighborhood were evacuated Sunday, as crews were called to the scene to check on the utilities near the houses.
