Picking someone up at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport? The airport has some good news for you.  It recently moved its cellphone lot to a new and larger location.

The new lot has about 100 parking spaces, twice the number available at the previous location.  It opened April 1, along Terminal Road at Scott Drive, adjacent to the daily garage.

Airport officials say they hope the new waiting area will provide additional free short-term parking for drivers meeting arriving travelers at BWI.

“The new Cell Phone Lot location will add spaces and convenience for our customers,” said Paul J. Wiedefeld, chief executive officer of BWI, in a statement. “The Cell Phone Lot is an important amenity for local motorists, and the additional spaces will allow more people to access the lot, especially at peak times.”

The cellphone lot expansion is expected to address growing demand as BWI continues to see strong passenger traffic.  Last year was the airport’s second-busiest for passenger traffic, according to recent figures, with almost 22.5 million commercial passengers passing through.
