A water main break in the Adelphi area is creating some road closures Friday morning, according to officials in the area.

Officials with the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission said a 10-inch water main broke around 4 a.m., causing the roadway to break up. According to the WSSC service alert map, the  water main is in the 1800 block of Metzerott Road.

Authorities said Metzerott Road between New Hampshire Avenue and Riggs Place is shut down. Police advised drivers in that area to find alternative routes. Police said roads in that area could be closed for some time.

A Metro bus got stuck along Metzerott Road because parts of the roadway broke apart as a result of the water main break. The bus was removed, and crews are working to repair the water main.
