All lanes of H Street NW between 16th and 18th Streets were open again by 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, following a demonstration that had closed down the area, according to police.
Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Hugh Carew said it was not immediately clear whether the protesters had a permit for their demonstration. He said police did not plan to ask them to move, shortly before the demonstrators did move out of the road.
Metro reported delays and detours on nine bus lines operating in the area of the protest. After the road reopened, all buses returned to their normal routes, though traffic remained slow in the area.
