Airport officials — and seafood lovers — are celebrating the return of a longtime favorite to Reagan National Airport.

Legal Sea Foods, which for many years had an outpost at the airport, is now open for business.

Officials at the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority will welcome the Boston-based seafood purveyor with an official ribbon cutting June 18. (Rumor is some of the authority’s bigwigs have been spotted enjoying seafood specialties during the restaurant’s “previews.” We’re trying not to be miffed that we weren’t invited.)

The restaurant is pre-security in Terminal B/C — just a stone’s throw away from a new outpost of Ben’s Chili Bowl, which will open later this year. Its return is part of a major revamp of the airport’s shopping and dining offerings.

After more than a decade of operations, Legal left the airport in 2009 claiming it had been pushed out to make room for a Sam & Harry’s steakhouse. The chain then sued MWAA. Hopefully, the hard feelings that accompanied Legal’s departure back then have been smoothed over over a steaming bowl of clam chowder.
