Downed tree blocks northbound lanes on GW Parkway

The northbound lanes have reopened.

U.S. Park Police said a tree fell and blocked northbound lanes on the George Washington Memorial Parkway Friday afternoon.

Authorities said the tree fell south of the Virginia State Route 123 interchange around 12:50 p.m.

Northbound traffic was being diverted onto Spout Run Parkway. Officials urged drivers to seek alternate routes.
