Authorities reopened the University Boulevard lane at Veirs Mill Road.

A police spokeswoman said the man came down from the radio tower voluntarily after speaking with authorities. He was taken to an area hospital with no known injuries, she said.

Police said the man climbed down the radio tower and is now in a safe place.

Authorities still have the road closed and the man was not injured.

The Montgomery County police and fire departments shut down a section of University Boulevard in Wheaton on Monday after authorities discovered a man climbing a 300-foot radio tower.

Authorities were called to University Boulevard and Veirs Mill Road around 4:28 a.m. after reports of a person yelling. At some point, police said the man started climbing the tower at the intersection.

As of 6 a.m., one lane is closed near the intersection on University Boulevard.
