Update: Outer loop of Capital Beltway reopens in Silver Spring after five-vehicle collision

Police said the outer loop of the Capital Beltway reopened around 6:50 a.m.

Motorists can expect delays in the area because of the earlier closure.

Maryland State Police closed the outer loop of the Capital Beltway in Silver Spring on Thursday morning after a five-vehicle accident.

Authorities said the site of the 6:10 a.m. accident is just before Route 97, also known as Georgia Avenue.

Police are working to move the accident to the shoulder.

That section of the Beltway remained closed as of 6:40 a.m.
